Always Sunny – Gale Zoe Garnett

by Roberta Beach Jacobson

Few singers pick up a Grammy and later go on to find success in the fields
of writing and acting. Gale Garnett truly deserves the star on her door.

She made her singing debut in 1960 and won a Best Folk Recording Grammy in
1964 for the upbeat song We'll Sing in the Sunshine (RCA). (The folk record
also sold as adult contemporary and country.)

Just imagine that exciting year at the awards, when The Beatles captured Best New Artist

Following that musical win, she went on to record other songs. Influenced by
the hippie movement, she sang about rainbows and magic wands. Nothing
climbed near the top of the charts, so she left the music business for other
goals.

Garnett has appeared in films, her most notable part being that of Aunt Lexy
in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, released in 2002. She has received great
reviews her one-woman stage shows.

Gale Garnett was born in July 17, 1942 in Auckland, New Zealand. Her family
relocated to Canada. In her early years, she won parts in a long list of tv
shows – such as Bonanza, Hawaiian Eye and 77 Sunset Strip. Impressive!

She has used the name Gale Zoe Garnett professionally and prefers to be
called Zoe. Her journalistic endeavors include writing for The Village Voiceand radio programs.

You can read her heartfelt obituary of (former Canadian Prime Minister) Pierre Elliott Trudeau at

Garnett's first book, Visible Amazement, was published by Simon & Schuster
in 2001. That was followed, in 2003, by Transient Dancing (McArthur
Publishing).

She sings. She writes. She acts. She even directs. Wow, what a multi-talent!
